  1.     Eliminate processed foods According to Marketplace.org processed foods make up 70% of the U.S. diet and nationofchange.org says 80% of pre-packaged foods sold in the U.S. are actually banned in other nations. Keep it simple. If you can’t pronounce it, don’t consume it. If you’re interested in learning more about healthy eating, read our blog on superfoods you should have in your pantry.   2.     Take the stairs As a nation we’re glued to our computers, TV’s and mobile devices 24/7, which means more sitting. Instead of taking the elevator, switch it up and take the stairs. It’ll get your blood flowing, and your body moving. According to the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, you burn 30 calories if you walk up two flights of stairs three times per day.   3.     Reduce alcohol and caffeine Alcohol provides no nutritional value, it is simply a waste of calories. We recommend planning ahead on how much you’ll drink each week and stick to it. Even if that means one glass of wine per night you’ll at least know your limit. Caffeine, on the other hand, has some health benefits such as reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s, some cancers and stroke. However too much of a good thing can be harmful. Adding dairy, and sweeteners can pack on the calories too. The CDC recommends choosing water over sugar-sweetened beverages to maintain weight and stay hydrated. Aquafina carries the Women’s Choice Award seal for America’s Best in Health & Wellness.   4.     Eat Green Plant based diets are good for your heart, your brain, your weight and overall health. A plant-based diet highlights fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains with a modest amount of fish, lean meats and low-fat dairy.   5.     Make fitness fun Working out doesn’t have to be at the gym. There are so many fun ways to burn calories that don’t even feel like a work out. Paddle boarding is a great way to get balanced and strengthen your core muscles. The best part is you get to discover marine life and work on your a tan while burning calories (but don’t forget the sunscreen). Another great way to feel the burn outside the gym is by participating in a charity run. It’s a fun way to get involved in your community and meet new people too! If you’re not a fan of paddle boarding or running, try yoga. It’s a fantastic way to de-stress and lengthen your muscles.
