4 Kitchen Safety Tips For The Holidays

The holidays are hectic, which causes people to rush through their days and forget important things that can affect their safety. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the kitchen is where most home fires occur. But most fires and other kitchen safety concerns can be easily prevented as well. Here are a few important kitchen safety tips to keep your home secure. Following them can help you make sure that your holiday stays merry and safe for all. Kitchen Safety
  1. Never touch plugs, switches or electrical appliances with wet hands. The simple act of drying your hands thoroughly before you plug in a blender can prevent serious injuries. Keep paper towels at hand near the sink for quick drying while working on your holiday treats.
  2. Do not leave your home while the oven, and/or stovetop is on. If children are present, ensure an adult is supervising at all times. Be mindful while you cook and don’t allow yourself to get distracted. In NFPA’s findings, unattended cooking was by far the leading contributing factor in fires.
  3. Keep it clean! Germs and viruses spread fast, especially this season. Clean and disinfect communal blankets, pillows, electronics and toys frequently to kill germs guests may have brought in.
  4. Babyproofing and/or pet proofing your home is especially important during the holidays. With wrapping paper, ribbon, scissors and more lying around the house there are many things that can cause injury. Check out Parents.com’s complete guide to babyproofing.
