Preparing Your Wardrobe for the Summer

Preparing Your Wardrobe for the Summer

Ladies, it’s almost that time again! Summer is just around the corner and while some of you living in warmer climates may be dreading the muggy air and scalding temperatures, most women in the country have been waiting a long 9 months for that thermostat to rise! blog_wardrobeWhat we can all agree on however is that our wardrobes will change (or should!) and how we go about doing this can determine a totally different outlook to this picturesque season. So what are some things you can do to prepare? Clean Out Your Closet We’ve all heard of spring cleaning, but many women seem to dread opening up that bedroom closet and reevaluating what’s in there. Now is an opportunity to get rid of the clothes that are old, torn, or ones that you’ve bought but just never put on. My own rule of thumb is 2 years. If I’ve had something in my closet for 2 years and never wore it, then there is a reason. Maybe I was hoping to one day fit into it after my fifteenth attempt of losing 10 pounds on the South Beach diet, or perhaps I was undecided at the store but couldn’t say no to the markdown pricing. Whatever the reason, clean it out. Give it to your sister, best friend, or donate it to the Salvation Army and get a tax deduction. No need to keep clothes that take up space! After all, you need a reason to do some summer shopping, right? Blooming Isn’t Just for Flowers If your summer wardrobe is comprised of more than 50% of those boring black, grey, and brown color options then you must reevaluate your palate! Summer is a cheery season and whether you’re taking a long vacation or just kicking back outside on your patio with an icy cold lemonade, this is a season and reason to celebrate. Bright colors are in and with the new trend of neon colors out there, you really can’t go wrong! My personal favorites? White, coral, and turquoise. Another option for those of you who prefer to stay on the safe side is to throw in lots of white clothing and sprinkle them with colorful accessories- that can work just as well and in fact, a white shirt serves as a clean backsplash, really highlighting that gorgeous pink necklace you’ve been dying to wear. Start tallying the compliments! Shopping If you were really savvy, then you would already have your new summer wardrobe from the fall! Why? When the summer season ends, those items go on sale so that is the best time to start shopping. But for those of you who missed out this time around, let’s talk about shopping in the now, even though the prices for summer clothing are starting to trend upwards. Sales happen year-round and the key here is to just ask! If you have certain department stores that you frequent or individual retailers, ask when their next sale is going to be. Then pencil it in on your calendar and make it a date. Take a friend who can join in on the fun and one that can give you some advice and input so that you feel more confident. Another option? Don’t go directly to the front of the store. I know, it’s tough to pass by the new, trendy designs that are being showcased behind the shiny glass windows, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their stock isn’t just as fabulous. The items up front are oftentimes the newest trends and by default, also the most expensive. My rule is that I’m allowed to browse and of course splurge if it’s for a special event, but otherwise I go straight to the back. After all, once you leave the store with your purchase nobody but you and the store clerk is going to know whether you bought the newest, hottest item of the week!
